Spent the last few hours editing a video for a class I’m taking and have the following advice for myself when I do my own film project:
Get coverage. Get it! Good takes on every shot! At least one!
Natural sound is a lifesaver. So is recording just the audio. Along those lines, the long reactions people have when waiting for lines don’t hurt either.
Never overlap dialogue when feeding lines. NEVER OVERLAP DIALOGUE when feeding lines.
If you’re tired but you know the take isn’t good enough, do another take. Everyone may hate you that day, but they won’t later. Neither will your editor. Your editor will kiss your feet with little frame-length kisses.
